People and Politics


Republic of El Salvador went through different political stages. The Salvadoran people rose in the early eighties to put an end to exploitation starting the civil war that lasted nearly 10 years.

Both parties agreed to the signing a peace treaty in 1991, and since then, the people and the state enjoy freedom and democracy.

The foundation of institutions with full sovereignty helped to move towards modernity and progress and the most recent presidential elections, which took place between the two parties, the right-wing (ARENA) and the left-wing (FMLN), in which the left-wing won with a difference of six thousand votes.
